Hyundai has released the first teaser image of its new, fourth-generation Santa Fe, which it promises will offer “industry-first active safety features”.

Set to be unveiled in February before making its official debut at the Geneva International Motor Show in early March, the fourth-generation Santa Fe will offer “a comprehensive package” of the Korean brand’s latest active safety features, says Hyundai.

One such feature is the industry-first “rear occupant alert” function that monitors the rear seats to detect passengers and alerts the driver when leaving the car. For all those absent-minded parents who sometimes forget they’re transporting kids, we guess…

The rear cross-traffic collision warning system, meanwhile, has been “enhanced” thanks to the addition of an automated braking function. To avoid the risk of collision when reversing out of narrow areas with limited visibility, the system warns the driver and applies the brakes automatically.

Although we now have an idea of the new model’s appearance in profile, little else is known about the new-generation version of Hyundai’s flagship SUV. So we’ll have to wait a few more weeks for the brand to divulge details of its plans for power-trains and cabin updates…
